The Edible Valley Podcast, Episode 78 “Doug Smith of Natural Pastures Cheese” Comox Valley, B.C.

Natural Pastures Cheese Featured on Edible Valley

Natural Pastures Cheese was featured on Edible Valley, a local podcast created and hosted by Comox Valley chef Jonathan Frazier.

Edible Valley shares stories from local farms, kitchens, chefs and food producers. Through interviews and conversations, Jonathan explores the people behind Vancouver Island food and the connections between agriculture, cooking and community.

Our Edible Valley Feature

In Episode 78, Jonathan spoke with Doug Smith of Natural Pastures Cheese.

The conversation covered the history of Natural Pastures, the growth of our local cheese company and the work involved in building a Canadian artisan cheese brand. It also included stories about the Comox Valley, local food and, of course, cheese.

Since 2001, Natural Pastures has handcrafted artisan cheese in Courtenay using milk from Vancouver Island farms.

We appreciate Jonathan for featuring Natural Pastures and for continuing to share the stories of the people who grow, make and prepare food across the Comox Valley and Vancouver Island.

Listen to our feature on Edible Valley to learn more about our history, our cheese and our local roots.

  • Michael Tchao’s Journey Around Vancouver Island: Water Buffalo, Mozzarella, and a Taste of Place
On Vancouver Island, food has a way of carrying the story of where it comes from. For Michael Tchao, his journey around the Island is not just about travel. It is about meeting the people, seeing the land, and understanding the care and the science, that goes into food before it ever reaches a plate. […]
  • Amsterdammer: The Summer Cheese That Fights With No One
Inspired by a German-style butter cheese, our Amsterdammer is mild, creamy, and wonderfully approachable. It has a gentle richness and a smooth, melt-in-your-mouth texture that makes it a favourite for young and old. Kids love it because it is mild and creamy. Adults love it because it pairs beautifully with so many foods and drinks. […]
